Oh. My. Gosh.  I knew this moment was coming, where there would be a great leap in the improvement of Direct To Garment printing, but it is still mind boggling.  For those not to familiar with the process, it is simply a different animal than traditional screen printing – rather than pushing ink through a screen it is more like a desktop printer; literally spraying the inks.  Up until about a year ago, what you are about to see in the video below would have taken at least 15 minutes of prep plus printing–PER SHIRT.  Making it extremely impractical for large orders.

I must admit, since the process of preparing art for DTG is MUCH simpler than how i do it now, i have been preparing for that sad day when i will move on, disappearing into the sunset and finally joining the fossils of rotary phones and fax machines.  But my outlook now is not as dreary.  Since the ability to have extremely detailed, unlimited color prints on garments will be available to the average end-user, I am thinking that the expectations of the art itself is going to rise.  Gone may be the days of letting your talented 8-year old nephew crank out a sub-par design.
